In a world that often seems focused on individual gains, it's heartening to witness the remarkable efforts of businesses that are actively contributing to positive change within their communities.
This month, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on the charitable and social impact initiatives of our member firms. These stories are a testament to the power of collective action and a reminder that businesses can be a force for good.
Fifty Bees: Buzzing for a better world
Fifty Bees is a prime example of a company dedicated to fostering a fairer economy while nurturing the spirit of altruism. Committed to living their values, they've embarked on a mission to make a tangible difference. One of their stand-out efforts is the "Bees For Good" association, which focuses on promoting research, particularly in cancer research, and supporting projects that enhance people's development and integration through business creation, entrepreneurship, and socio-professional integration.
The Running Bees, an initiative pioneered by Fifty Bees, exemplifies their commitment. An annual relay race covering 25km, employees passionately participate, raising funds for cancer research. With €10 donated for each kilometre covered, they've contributed substantially to the Centre Léon Bérard, dedicated to combating cancer.
But their efforts don't stop there. Fifty Bees is actively involved in empowering young entrepreneurs through programs like Apprentis d’Auteuil’s Ouvre-boîte and supports start-ups via their Entreprendre network initiative. They're also mindful of the environment, housing beehives on their terrace and actively working towards reducing their carbon footprint.
Cowgills: Four decades of giving back
Cowgills is commemorating their 40th anniversary by striving to raise £40,000 for various charitable causes. Through spirited events such as tough mudders and relay races, they're bringing their teams together for a greater purpose. Collaborations with organisations like the NSPCC underscore their commitment to making a meaningful impact. With over £37,000 raised already and more events in the pipeline, the firms dedication to reaching their target is inspiring.
Revisonshuset Tal & Tanker: Biking for a cause
The summer witnessed an extraordinary feat as Helle Fonnesbech Sejrup from Revisonshuset Tal & Tanker embarked on a 1,250 km biking journey to Paris as part of Team Rynkeby. This incredible initiative raises funds for children with critical illnesses and their families. The firm wholeheartedly supported Helle's journey, providing not just financial support but also serving as a base for meetings and training rides. The journey exemplifies how dedication and unity can lead to impactful change.
Fineac Treuhand AG: Two decades of compassion
For over 20 years, Fineac Treuhand AG has been a pillar of support for the "Licht für vergessene Kinder" foundation. Their contributions have aided orphans and children in need across the globe. Notably, employee Kathrin Kühn's role on the foundation board showcases the deep-seated dedication within the organisation.
Tuffias Sandberg: Nurturing communities
Tuffias Sandberg, another standout member firm, demonstrates unwavering support for the Jan Hofmeyer non-profit organisation in South Africa. Every month, they provide warm, healthy meals to over 350 people in need, fostering a sense of community and connection. Their staff actively volunteers, engaging in the preparation, service, and interaction with the local community. These efforts radiate compassion.
Ashley Muller, Partner at Tuffias Sandberg said “It is amazing to see how this day brings the community together. Often, they will sit at tables available at Jan Hofmeyer where they chat, eat and laugh. It is touching to see these people smile under very difficult conditions that they live in. There are many children that rely on this organisation which, in addition to the above meal, are given a treat which always brings a smile to their faces.”
Community Impact: Ormerod Rutter's dedication to making a difference
At Ormerod Rutter, a profound commitment to making a positive impact in the local community lies at the heart of their brand values.
A prime instance of their altruism is their volunteering efforts with the local charity group 'Men in Sheds,' an initiative spearheaded by Age UK. This ingenious project gathers retired individuals for collective woodwork endeavors, fostering camaraderie and addressing the issue of loneliness that often plagues retired men. In sync with their dedication to mental health, the Ormerod Rutter team participated in crafting 'Twiddle Boards,' specifically designed to assist dementia sufferers with restless hands. These boards, created by the team, were generously donated to a local dementia organisation. The company's engagement doesn't end there; they annually host a Christmas volunteer day with 'Men in Sheds,' crafting decorations that are subsequently sold to generate profits.
The compassionate spirit of Ormerod Rutter extends to the KEMP hospice as well, where their team volunteered at the sorting warehouse. Through their hands-on efforts, they organised donations, ensuring that these items would find new homes through the charity's shops. This act of service embodies the company's commitment to aiding the less fortunate.
Taking ownership of their immediate environment, Ormerod Rutter has "adopted" a stretch of road adjacent to their headquarters. They have committed to conducting a minimum of three litter picks each year to maintain the cleanliness of the area.
In addition to hands-on involvement, Ormerod Rutter has shown financial support as well. Their recent sponsorship of the local food festival demonstrates a harmonious blend of community celebration and philanthropy. Hosting a coconut shy stall, the company collected donations that were channelled toward their local food bank. The remarkable result: over £250 raised in a single day, a testament to the power of collective giving.
